Where Business Happens

Business is a competitive, dynamic activity. To excel in business, practice is required. At the Marian University, you will get that practice from day one. Beginning in their freshman year, all of our students regularly engage with real business leaders to work on real projects to develop key skills and gain experience.  At the Byrum School of Business, you will practice business early and often.

Learn By Doing

It's not about textbooks, lectures, and exams at The Byrum School.  In our program, you DEVELOP business plans, WORK on a real consulting team, RUN a business, DO an internship.  In other words, you learn about business by DOING business instead of just reading about it.

Students Bring Dippin’ Dots Franchise to Campus

Students, faculty, and staff can now purchase Dippin’ Dots ice cream on campus, thanks to students from the Byrum School’s freshman business experience class.

  • Cameron Acheson, Chas Buening, Mary Mullaney and Wesley Cook are one of several student teams who pitched their business idea to a group of Indianapolis-area investors in the annual Byrum School Business Plan Competition, part of every Byrum School student’s curriculum.
  • Their winning business plan impressed the group, who provided $525 in start-up funds to allow them to turn their plan into reality.
  • “Our freshman business experience course not only prepared us to write a business plan, but it gave us the tools and knowledge to actually run the business,” said Cameron Acheson, who handles accounting for the team.
  • They officially opened their new business in January and sales are exceeding expectations, even with the cold weather.
  • “We ran out of nearly every flavor on our first day and had to immediately order another shipment,” said Chas Buening, who is responsible for sales activities.

What makes us different?

The Byrum School of Business at Marian University is different—and better we think—because working on real business issues is not optional. Unlike other business programs, our students interact with a variety of businesses. In our program, business opportunities are expected to occur every day.

Russ Kershaw, Dean

On behalf of the Byrum School of Business and Marian University, I welcome you to our programs.
